Two Father's Day cards

Hi all!  Here are my dad's and my FIL's Father Days cards and I need your advice please!  For my FIL's (Bill) card, I used a very old stamp from Magnolia' Lazy Summer Days collection called' Ocean Background scene'...

I love the sentiment inside the card, it says "wishing you calm winds, gentle waters, and smooth sailing" - it's by Paper Makeup from the Sailing By set (from Quixotic Paperie here).  My in-laws live in a village called Wargrave near Henley, in the UK and Bill has a gorgeous boat - their house backs onto The Thames and he has a lovely time sailing up and down it!  I know he would love to take it out to sea one day, hence my card!

For my dad, I made him a more cosy card - he loves animals and the birds in his garden!  I used Mo Manning's pile of pets called 'coexist' - sweet, huh?!!

Now I need some advice!  I'm not great at grown up men cards - never know how much to embellish or not!!  Are these cards too plain?  Shall I add anything?!!  Your advice warmly welcomed before I pop them in the post on Wednesday!  Thank you!

I am entering the first card into the following challenges:

  12. Well I have this problem quite a lot and I would say that these cards are fabulous as they are.The trouble is we get so used to putting loads of embellishment on female cards that when we do a male card they do tend to look a bit bare. But I hate it when some put flowers on a man's card as I do not know any man who would welcome flowers on their cards. You have gone with theme's they are both interested in so they will be well chuffed with that.

  25. Hi sweetie these are perfect just the way they are men are usually easy either way I have found they can take a card with or without. My dad was always more for what it said on the card then anything else.....we taught him well lol.
I love the sea scene that is my fave I love the sea & think I'm lucky to get live next to it & your colouring is just fantastic on it. Well on both but you know what I mean lol.

    Lotsa hugs Vicky xxx

  26. Great cards Mary, what are you talking about "I am not great at making grown-up men cards"? ;) Seriously though, I really like them, and in my experience, men prefer simple cards. Having said that, you are the maker, so if you fancy some embellishing, who's going to stop you? Although I wouldn't go overboard and add 200 flowers to the mix ;) Buttons are always a safe bet with male cards I think. Hope that helps! Have a great week :)
