Happy Thursday everybody and just one more day to the weekend - yay!!!! Today I'm here with a card using some gorgeous goodies from the Quixotic Paperie store!  I love making sassy cards so this week I reached for my Kenny K For Whimsy Stamps Club Kid...

Those KKs are such a pleasure to colour!  I matched Club Kid with papers from Cosmo Cricket's new Social Club 6x6 pad (currently with 15% off!) - normally too masculine for girl card but perfect with this super cool lady!  I used Bazzill kraft cardstock for the card base and a sentiment from Whimsy's Friendship Ticket Sentiments, die cut with the matching Whimsy Shapeology Ticket die.  This card is definitely going to one of my friends who HATES girly girly stuff!!

I bet you're now singing that Cyndi Lauper song!!  Yes, I know I keep using Download Diva (you can get the stamp from Quixotic Paperie here) - I promise to use a different KK soon!  I matched her up with those gorgeous DPs from the new My Mind's Eye Lime Twist Out of the Blue paper pad - quite a manly pad but thought they go well with this cutie's jeans.

I'm very excited by the prize Mad For Markers is giving away this week - a hair and skin colouring guide book  for Copics!  OMG, I wish I wasn't on the DT now - I want a chance to win this!!!

The book has pages (A6 size) with the faces shown on the cover printed inside .. on each page one is coloured and tells which markers were used and the other is black and white.. free for you to colour/ practise on! They are printed on Xpress IT blending card and will be available to purchase through the webstore by this Friday for $5. Coming soon is a sequel on colouring people (clothes)!

Make mine a Make It Monday!!

Before I get onto my DT card for Make It Monday here is SOME VERY IMPORTANT NEWS!  As many of you know, Michelle of Pink Paper Paradise started off Make It Monday as a way for people to share, but it's taken over her blog!!  So as from today we now have a brand new spankin' blog dedicated to Make It Monday!  If you already have our badge, please could you update it with the new linky below.  Now Michelle can have her own space to create and share!

Onto my MIM card!  This week we are being sponsored by Platypus Creek Stamping and Crafts - they have a mixture of goodies and this week they are giving away a gorgeous set of sweetie stamps!  Go take a look at the challenge blog here to see what you can win!  They even have some freebie digis and I used Hannah's Guitar and "you rock" sentiment (both found here) - I thought they would be the perfect compliment to my all time fave Kenny K Rock Chick!  I even used the guitar as a border as you can see inside the card - how cool is that?!

I hope you get a chance to upload your card to Make It Monday - we love seeing your creations!  And don't forget, the more comments you leave on other entrants' posts mentioning you saw their card/project on MIM, the more entries - and therefore chances! - you have of winning second prize!  You can see all the deets and the other DT makes here.

Good time girl!

Yay, happy Thursday everyone - just one more day to go until the weekend! My card for Quixotic Paperie today is for a good time girl!  Perhaps me when I was [much, much] younger, but definitely suitable for my funkier, younger friends!  I wanted to do a little paper piecing and I thought the hat in Kenny K's All That for the Whimsey Stamps collection would be perfect for it.  I used my Viva Decor transparent gloss pen for the button on her hat (look closer, lol!) and the houndstooth paper from the Webster's Pages Hollywood Vogue & Wonderfull paper pack.

And, yes, I do wish my waistline was that small!  Anyway, less about me!  Now, do you have a ton of brads in your stash which you never use anymore?!  Yeah, I can see all those hands up in the air!  In an effort to use mine up, I used my Bazzill Mystical Flourish Jewel Template to pierce the holes and create those funky swirls with those lickle ickle silver brads - uber cool, don't you think?!

I finished off the card with my Whimsey ticket sentiment stamp and Shapeology ticket die.  And isn't that butterfly cute?!  It's from the other Whimsey friendship ticket stamp set - these are so versatile I just had to get the lot!  And I'm saving up for the February Whimsey Stamps release - more stamps and new Shapeology dies!  Click on the piccie below that will take you straight to the section!

Other new items in the store are the My Mind's Eye Stella & Rose collection (FOUR designs in 6x6 pads), Prima 6x6 pads and the SCACD Stamps new release. All luscious stock!  Right, where's my credit card...

Copics tutorial on blonde hair for Quixotic Paperie

Hello all!  Get yourself a cuppa and settle down for a longer post than usual!  As I promised [nervously] last Thursday, here is my very first ever tutorial!  I have had lots of requests for how I do blonde hair (you can see an example here) so that seemed a good place to start.  I should first say that I haven't had any Copic classes - I'm self taught (which is how I like to do things!) and I'm sure there are other techniques that work just as well (if not a lot better, lol!!).  If you are interested in what type of cardstock I use with Copics see my post here where I have experimented with a few brands (albeit mainly with UK supplied ones).  Okay, so onto the tutorial...

Today I am using Kenny K's Download Diva.  I use Memento Tuxedo Black ink which won't smear as it is non solvent (unlike StazOn).  As you can see below, for blonde hair I use colours E50, E51, E53, E57.  By varying the amount of colours I use in each, I can create different coloured hair, as I will explain later.

Step 1

I start with the lightest colour E50 and use light feather strokes to cover the whole hair area.  Some people use small circle movements but I'm not bothered at this point to be too precise with coverage.

Step 2
I now think about where the light and shadows are on the image but I don't get overly over hung up about it because in reality light sources come from several places. I do this step in two ways. First is determining where the main light source is coming from. For this image I've actually chosen from behind and left of her. Secondly, I consider where it is most natural for light to catch. In this case, because she has curly hair it is likely to be on the outer edges of her curls. It also tells me where the darkest shadows will be and in this case it is within the curls and shadows from the head and body. With this in mind, I take E51 and use feather strokes from the darkest areas out to the lighter areas. I feather up to the areas towards where I expect the light to hit the most.

Step 3
As in the previous step, I use E53 to feather from the darkest areas outwards, but go less farther towards the lightest areas. If I want her hair to be lighter, I would restrict the feathering of E53.

Step 4
I now blend the 3 colours together with E51 using small circle movements over the entire hair area. I try not to saturate the card too much (especially if I'm not using the optimum card for Copics!) at this point otherwise it can cause bleeding outside of the lines. Once blended I might go back with E53 and use feather strokes to add more to the shadows, blending again with E51. If I wanted her hair to be a light blonde, I would finish at this point. However, if I want a darker blonde I go on to the next step.

Step 5
I now use E57 to create a darker blonde. I control the darkness by controlling how much E57 I use. The more feathering I do with E57 the darker the blonde will be - it's as simple as that! In this photo you can see that I have used very little E57.

Step 6
I then blend with E53 just over the E57 to soften it and finally blend all over the hair area with E50. Voila! and here is the finished hair.

And here she is in her full glory!

I used my trusty Bazzill kraft cardstock, the sentiments are from the CC Designs Handy Additions sentiment set and I highlighted it with some 4mm flat backed pearls.  The DPs are from the Crate Paper Paper Doll collection kit - it's 50% in Quixotic Paperie so get over there quick before I buy up the last of the stock!  Lastly, I made the sweet border with my Sew Easy tool - now I've got the hang of it, I love it!  Saves me so much time prodding the holes through myself!  I'll do my next tutorial on this handy tool!

Thanks for your patience and I hope that was useful! Feel free to ask questions and leave your tips on how you do your blonde hair in the comments section - you know I love to hear from you!

As indicated above, the products I've used are available from Quixotic PaperieElaine has lots of new arrivals - all EIGHT of the yummy new Prima 6x6 pads, the new TGF release (lovin' the new Cheekies!) and new Marianne D papers and dies.  She also has the Sew-Easy is back in stock, along with all accessories - I will be doing a tutorial on this little tool very soon!

Hey girl!

It feels so good NOT to make another Xmas card and go back to some sassiness!  I recently found Kenny K digi stamps through Michelle who is on the DT - I just love her funky cards so of course I had to invest in some of that, didn't I?!

This is one cool rock chick!  Sort of like me when I was younger - well, perhaps not!!  But I would have loved to have been but instead I was a sensible, boring lady, lol!!  I've used a Bazzill black bling card base to give it a bit of glamour rock chick and that is kraft stock on the matting - unfortunately the rubbish grey weather in the UK just doesn't help with the photo colour quality!  Hey ho, really must move to a sunnier country...
